New postby MartySews2 on Sun Jul 20, 2014 8:43 am

This was my first time doing a baby bubble ... the pattern is Creations by Michie' Banded Baby Boy Bubble #107. The fabric is baby blue cotton sateen from Hancock Fabrics and the lace is ecru Spanish lace from The Lace Cottage.

Gorgeous. I'm sure the Mom is well pleased and the baby very handsome in it.

Cutest ever. Where do you find patterns like that. I haven't done many garments lately but it seems like it is mostly the big 4 here. Vogue, McCalls, Butterick and Simplicity. I used to like Butterick and Vogue.....30 years ago.

Piney, this pattern if from Creations by Michie', an independent pattern designer based in South Alabama. There are a lot of independent pattern designers out there and I use them almost as much as I use the big 4 ... Vogue, Butterick, Simplicity and McCall's. Yes, their patterns are about $10-$15 each but all sizes are included and they have a thick paper which makes it easier to trace off. What I learned in this project was how to add edging lace to pintucks, adding insertion lace to the faux suspenders, how to make an infant elasticized pant leg, add snap tape to the crotch, how to make a faux waistband and basically how to make a baby's bubble. It was a learning experience and I was so thrilled that it fit the baby perfectly since I've never seen the baby and the mother's measurements were haphazard at best. She sent me a picture of the baby wearing the outfit yesterday. It's on my hubby's laptop.

Nice to know there are independent designers to support. I loved the comments some made about his sneakers! All I could think of is did you look at all the tiny details and extras in that lovely outfit? I guess it did its job and the pictures will live on. Hopefully your creation get passed to a new generation in 20-30 years.
