Tie dye/mandala print dress

Actually, it is a top and a skirt:

I put a secret pocket inside the waistband of the skirt, big enough for my phone and/or other essential items:

The fabric is a polyester knit which is actually fairly thick, and to my surprise, quite ravely. Part of the waistband started to unravel when I was making it, but I think I covered for it rather imperceptibly. There are a few things I wish I had done differently with the print placement and construction, but given the issues with raveling I have my doubts about how these pieces will hold up. The print was actually off grain by quite a bit, and the bottom hem of the top is quite uneven with the printed border (you can't see in the photo as it's tucked into the skirt). I might fix this by adding a band at the bottom of the top.

Overall this was a fun outfit to make, and I have worn each of the pieces separately which definitely adds to the versatility. I haven't been doing much sewing lately, so it was nice to have a successful project.

It is lovely Kaitlin. I really like the print. The pocket is a clever idea. It looks so comfortable to wear. My daughter brought me two pieces of fabric from Cape Town, South Africa when she was there in January. I have washed one of the prints and it's a lovely cotton with a border print on the cross grain and a different border print on the selvedge. I'm going to make a dolman sleeve tunic top from it when I get to sewing for myself again. The other piece of fabric is an upholstery/denim weight cotton with an interesting border print. I think that it will make a lovely fall jacket. I don't like the feel of cotton on my skin so I will probably line each piece with an Ambiance rayon lining.

I love that print and you did a wonderful job on that outfit.. I also wish everything I wear had at least one pocket for essentials like kleenex and a cell phone.. Old people suffer from drippy noses a lot and I don't know why.. We have been talking about this in our gatherings. (church and neighborhood ones)

Kaitlin, beautiful dress. Love the pattern/color of the fabric and the pattern you used. I'd wear that top my arms were 20 years younger .

Libby, DH suffers from the drippy nose you speak of. His doc put him on a nasal inhaler that has worked wonderfully.
