Today, I went back to my ophthalmologist to have my right eye checked. It's been swollen since my stroke. I learned that I have lost my peripheral vision in my right eye and am legally blind in that eye. My left eye is questionable as the results were inconclusive. These changes happened because of the stroke. I will no longer be able to drive which is a hard pill to accept. It means that I will just have to work harder to sew and to do the other things that give me pleasure. Thanks for letting me vent.

Oh Marty, I know what a blow that is to you. I just lost the use of my car for 4 weekdays because DS has to use it for work, and that was awful for me. I have been so independent for so many years and did not have to answer to anyone. I really feel for you. I wish I was closer so that I could offer to drive for you, but that will not work for you and I. I am sure you have lots of helpers that will help you get around. Keep your chin up dear friend. Prayers sent ! !

Marty, I am so sorry to hear about your vision. My DMIL lost her vision in her 70s and lost her independence-driving etc., but she carried on with life with gusto. She crochet afghans for all of her children (6) and grands/greatgrands. I think she made over 50 afghans and did a beautiful job. We also found adaptive equipment and she was able to continue to monitor her blood sugars and draw up her own insulin. She said it was the little things that we allowed her to do and supported her doing that gave her peace of mind. If you need help don't hesitate to reach out for it. I know the Dept of Health was a big help when it came to adaptive equipment, they have magnifiers that are much stronger than what you can buy in the community stores and many of them can be attached to sewing machines, computers etc. to help you see better. You'd be amazed at what is available. DMIl also enjoyed reading and the local library had books on tape for the blind/nearly blind and she would get 3 books a week in the mail (with free postal returns) and the library loaned out the player.
Like Libby said, I wish we lived closer as I wouldn't mind running errands etc. with you. Vent anytime you wish.
