Marty, I am so sorry to hear about your vision. My DMIL lost her vision in her 70s and lost her independence-driving etc., but she carried on with life with gusto. She crochet afghans for all of her children (6) and grands/greatgrands. I think she made over 50 afghans and did a beautiful job. We also found adaptive equipment and she was able to continue to monitor her blood sugars and draw up her own insulin. She said it was the little things that we allowed her to do and supported her doing that gave her peace of mind. If you need help don't hesitate to reach out for it. I know the Dept of Health was a big help when it came to adaptive equipment, they have magnifiers that are much stronger than what you can buy in the community stores and many of them can be attached to sewing machines, computers etc. to help you see better. You'd be amazed at what is available. DMIl also enjoyed reading and the local library had books on tape for the blind/nearly blind and she would get 3 books a week in the mail (with free postal returns) and the library loaned out the player.
Like Libby said, I wish we lived closer as I wouldn't mind running errands etc. with you. Vent anytime you wish.
Brockie
