What fun to sew for new babies. Because of the strings issues with rag quilts though, I don't like to give them to really young children. JMHO

I got all the pieces cut & sandwiched now I have to lay them out so I don't have all one kind together. Glad I have a big desk! I hope to do that tomorrow after I go to my sister's & before bowling. then maybe I can get them sewn on Sunday. If I need a nap tomorrow I will lay it out Sunday & sew during the week.

Joe asked me the other day about "those blankets with frayed edges" that he's seen somewhere. I told them I thought he meant rag quilts and googled a pic. Yep, that's it. Then he says, "can you make one with all my old chambray work shirts and jeans?"

The company changed uniform suppliers so when he received 14 new sets, he was able to keep the old ones since they had no use for them. I put them all in a space bag to do "something" with someday. I think the "something" is here, now to find the "someday".

It's on my ever-growing list.....

Can't wait to see the finished quilt, it's sure to be a keeper.

Cotton doesn't really work unless it's homespun. Chambray might be okay since it's a looser weave but it's certainly not the best. I'd absolutely put flannel in between and on the backside, Kathy.

I've never worried about a problem with the threads and babies. The longest threads that could come off are only 1/2 inch or so and once the thing is washed 3 or 4 times (which I do before giving) it's a rare thread that comes out.

That's what I was thinking. The back & center are flannel so I figure a square here or there of regular cotton should be OK since the others will ravel. I will make sure they are spread out so they won't be together on the front or back. I just can't do a sports theme without golf or football (or bowling) for this family. I could have gotten some real ugly football helmets but didn't want that in the quilt. The Michigan State I found in flannel. 2 hrs till bowling, Nap or lay out squares??

The nap won on Saturday!
I got it all sewn & started clipping on Sunday. I have all thehorizontal rows clipped 2 more rows to clip vrtically then turn it around & do the verticals in the other direction. Hopefully I will get it clipped tonight but if not definatly tomorrow.

So, how many times did you wash it and how did it turn out? Picture?

I washed it once & put it through a rinse cycle before work. It will go in the dryer after work. It looked pretty good.
