Help with M5685 pattern instructions.

New postby sewingmom on Sun Jan 11, 2009 2:25 pm

I am making Mcalls Easy Stitch and Save view B size 6 Pattern# M5685. I have hit an impass. The midriff section is supposed to match up to the top section. The top section is supposed to be gathered between the small circles and the midriff section is to be attached matching the small circles on the top to the small circles on the middriff piece. The problem comes when the circles on the midriff piece are wider apart than the circles on the top piece without gathering anything yet. I do not have the child here to just guess and gather. What do I do?? something is wrong or I am confused.

Wish I could help. Without having done it, I can't help. Perhaps you could look at the pattern pieces and see if they look like the correct proportion. Another thought is that you may have missed a sentence that told you to do something to one of the pieces before this step.

Is it possible that you have the midriff piece upside down or backwards? From what I can gather from the line drawings, the top is gathered and the bottom of the top is gathered to the midriff piece. It could be an error in pattern drafting. That happens a lot of time on Easy patterns. While, as a whole, it is good to match up notches but sometimes it is not feasible. I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree with Marty -- if it works without matching notches, don't worry about it. Also the actual gathering is probably pretty limited in smaller sizes -- I mean there isn't much to ease in there is there?

Thanks, Ladies, I did end up, ignoring the notches and just gathered the top between the dots till the top fit the midrif. DGD picked this one out and If I can get it to fit her will look adorable on her. I am making it in a black and white print wint black midriff and crimson piping around the midrif.
Dorothy, You are correct. There is not a lot of gathering in the top.
Marty, You are correct'. Those small circles and notches are mis-placed on the midrif piece.

These are very old posts. How do they get brought forward as if they are new?

Sewingmom, when new folks get approved and start looking around they enter key phrases into the search and end up in different forums and find things that spark their interest (or further some spammy need for those that are so inclined like in this case!).

If you suddenly stumbled across this board and were looking to learn more about how to make a skirt for instance. You'd enter "making a skirt" up above and who knows what you'd come up with from any of the years that we've been posting.

That's how it happens.

Lennie, All three of the spammed threads were old ones with my online ID on them. Sort of scarry,

It was just one spammer so I wouldn't read anything into it. It's happened to me before too. You could run a virus scan to be sure that your computer is not infected and change your password. That's what I do. I use difficult passwords with numbers & symbols to make it harder for someone to hack my account.
