Black Friday fabric sales

New postby sewingrandma on Sat Nov 30, 2013 5:39 pm

Did anyone take part in these sales at Joann's or Hancock's. Both had excellent prices on flannel and fleece. DH and I (and the grands) were at Hancock's by 6:30am and I purchased 2 bolts of flannel for Newborns in Need and various lengths of flannel and fleece for the new grandbaby. Then I hit Joann's later in the morning and found another bolt of flannel. I was so glad I didn't have to wait in the cutting line at Joann's as it went all the way to the back of the store. The flannel came in premeasured bolts luckily. Took the grandkids out to breakfast after and they wanted to do some shopping too. I was so glad the area where DD lives is fairly small so traffic and crowds weren't but so bad. We did stay away from stores that tend to be crowded so our shopping experience wasn't bad.

Nope no Thanksgiving shopping for me or Black Friday shopping...We just don't have the extra cash right now.. too many things needing fixed in the house and garage right now so not alot of extra money.
DS will get probably one or two gifts from us and that's it.. he is 22 so hopefully he understands.. ;)
Hubby and me will just exchange the same.. 1 or 2 gifts.. course he got me my new to me sewing/embroidery machine.. so I am a happy camper.. need to get started on some sewing here!!

I did most of Christmas shopping on Wednesday when the stores were not crowded. Target had already marked a lot of things down so that was easy. No crowds, no fussy sales clerks, easy in and out parking. The rest of my Christmas shopping was done online but I didn't notice much difference in prices. Everything will arrive at my house by Dec 11th so I have plenty of time to get everything mailed by the 15th. Today, I'm going to Hancock Fabrics for some felt squares and lace edging. I don't need any fabric at this time. I need to sew up a lot of the fabric/projects that I already have on hand. :D :D :D

We also have had some unexpected expenses but I went to JA's and got some of their flannel. I pulled many bolts and wrote on a piece of paper what went with what for pillow cases. I tagged each bolt with the yardage I wanted and the cutting table people were thrilled. At $1.72/yard I couldn't pass it up. So for about $25 I made 12 pillow case kits to give to the library quilting group as gifts. We will set aside a day to put them together for those that don't know the roll-up method. http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/millionpillowcases/instructions/RollItUp.pdf (I use 27" for the main part, 21/2" for the trim and 9" for the band.)

I was one of the crazies at Joann's at 5:30 am waiting for the doors to open. I bought several lengths of flannel, some bleached muslin and what I thought was going to be $0.60/yard tulle. I bought the wrong stuff and it was $1.99/yard! Luckily I had a 50% coupon. I was not happy with the girl at the cutting table for not telling me it was not the sale item. :x
I put my DD's items on my slip so we could get the additional % off the total sale and together we spent about $130 so that wasn't too bad considering all we got.
