A Resource for Zippers

New postby MartySews2 on Mon Oct 24, 2016 8:20 am

In doing clothing repairs/alterations, I am frequently replacing zippers. I have found an excellent resource that I would to share with y'all. It's Sew True. They are based in the NYC area but their service is great. I'm in need of some trouser zippers at the moment so I ordered 5 black, 5 navy, and 5 dark brown. These are the YKK brand which is supposed to be one of the best on the market. The wonderful thing about shopping with Sew True is that the zippers are around 50 cents each or less. My total order came to around $12 including shipping costs. They will be here by the end of the week. Sometimes shipping is free. That is about 1/4 of the cost per zipper if I had gone to Wally World or JoAnn's plus I don't have to deal with traffic or drive an hour each way to shop. Just wanted to share.

Thanks Marty. I use quite a few invisible zips and I can't find them any cheaper than what True Sew offers.

Found my Maxi Lock thread for $2.06/cone. I finally put 2+2 together yesterday while sewing and came up with that my serger doesn't like me using Sure Lock thread on the loopers, the thread is very slick feeling compared to the Maxi lock and the tensions are hard to get right. I have been having problems with the tension for a while, basically since I started buying the Sure Lock cones. Now that my Joann's doesn't carry Sure lock any longer so I won't be buying it there and Hancock's is closed I've had to search on line for my Maxi lock. WaWak is having a sale on thread and I also noticed machine needles and a few other items. I looked at zippers and a 24inch invisible zip is only 79cents. Don't know what the quality is so only ordered one for now. The review of the zips said they were just like you buy at the fabric stores only no packaging. It didn't mention the brand they were talking about. Will let everyone know how the service and quality of items the items I ordered are. Shipping is a flat rate of $4.89 but they promise shipping in 1-2 days.

I'm am pleased with the service from Wawak sewing. I made my order Tuesday afternoon, received notice that the order had been packed that evening and that it had been shipped Wednesday morning with a tracking number and this afternoon the package arrived in good shape. The box was in good shape, plenty of paper padding, Everything was in a zippered plastic bag, white thread by itself and the colored thread together. Elastic and zipper in another bag. The zipper is a YKK brand and looks/feels just like the ones I paid over $3/each for at Hancock and Joann. Included in the box was a catalog and there is so much more in it than there was on the website. I will definitely be ordering again from them.

Hello, I know I have been absent, but was wondering about zippers for some ITH projects. Have you purchased any of those type of zippers anyone?

Karen, sorry, but what is an ITH project? Not familiar with the term, or I just may be too tired to think straight at this point. Btw, good to see you back, what have you been up to?
WaWak has all sorts of very inexpensive zippers, not sure what type you need. If you order more than one item the shipping cost is very reasonable and it will get to you fast.

Brockie ... ITH means in the hoop. It's an embroidery term for a specific type of project where everything is sewn within the embroidery hoop.
