should I fix this?

should I fix this?

New postby bridesmom on Tue Jul 31, 2012 9:35 pm

This is the jacket I am making, as you can see the shoulder is a good 1/2 inch wider than my shoulder is. It will mean ripping out all the topstitching and serging and will mean adjusting the cap of the sleeve if I cut off 1/2" at the top. Should I do it? I'm having the feeling if I leave it, I won't wear it cause I am not happy with the fit. How will I adjust the cap of the sleeve to get it to fit properly?

If it was me I would figure it is supposed to be that way. I learned that in the 80s.

It sure looks like the dropped shoulder was supposed to be that way to me ! See how smooth the line is.

Laura, if it bothers you so much, I would scoop out the top of the armhole & use the sleeve cap to fill in the difference or lower the sleeve cap. Something to think about how you want the jacket to look. Another way would be to add tucks to the shoulder line to take up the excess.

Looks to me like a little bit of shoulder pad is the answere. How about trying a pot holder folded into a triangle and see if it helps??

Regardless if it's supposed to be like that or not, Laura, if you don't like it, fix it. I know it takes very little for me to not want to wear something once I've made it. And fix it soon otherwise you won't. :shame: :D Just MHO.

Silly thing is the other jacket which I made last summer exact same pattern doesn't do this on me. So the sleeves are ripped out, and I hope I can get at it in the next few days. I think that is what is causing my sewing slump. That and the other top I was making that I have 3/4 finished that I used the wrong side of the fabric. Maybe it's time to just sew something fast and easy that I don't have to think about, then try again.
