Had the privilege of working with a 16 yr old who has applied to be on Project Runway Junior. She has taken art lessons at Memphis College of Art and knows something about draping fabric on her mannequin. However, she knows little to nothing about garment construction. Her mom found out about the American Sewing Guild and called me for help. I met with her and her mom this afternoon and set them up with a sewing instructor closer to their home. I just don't have time to teach her the construction skills that she needs to compete. However, it was a fun afternoon and her ideas, drawing skills, and sketches were wonderful. I also helped the mom in making a weighted blanket for her autistic son. I just love how sewing is going from one generation to the next. I truly hope that this young girl will make it in the design world which can be ruthless and competitive.
