Machine Troubles...someone help please

New postby Donna on Sat Jul 09, 2011 9:19 pm

HI, I have a husqvarna 400 machine and the bottom spool thread is not catching? I have no idea why? I thought perhaps the tension, but I adjusted that, and it's still not catching...or sewing. I hope someone can help....for such an expensive machine, Im not so happy. :(

Hi Donna and welcome! First thought - is the machine dirty? Is there fluff built up inside the bobbin, or around the bobbin case and/or needle? Does the machine get oiled, and if so, is it oiled. Do you have the right needle for your fabric type? That can do it as well. If you've broken a needle you may have knocked the timing off and then it will need service.

Donna, could you have your bobbin in backwards?? If the thread is winding off wrong it wont catch. My bobbin is a drop in so the bobbin must be put in where it feeds off turning the spool counterclockwise. If it was the sort to be put in where it sits up instead of laying down it would need to turn clockwise as the thread feeds off. I did not know this for years and had many struggles with bobbin issues.

Oh, I forgot about that issue! Makes a huge difference if the bobbin is in wrong!

I would definitely check the bobbin to be sure it is in correctly as well as if your needle is inserted all the way up with the flat side on the back. Make sure all lint & fuzz is cleared out of the bobbin race area. Then carefully tilt your machine to the back & turn the handwheel slowly to see where the needle intersects with the bobbin thread if your machine is a front or side loading bobbin. If your machine is a top loading bobbin, then remove the presser foot & see where the needle intersects with the bobbin. If they do not intersect, then you may need to have your machine serviced.

Make sure you have removed the bobbin case and needle plate to clean it, use a lint brush and dust everything and replace each piece in reverse order exactly the same. While you have your bobbin case out see if there is any nicks in it from the needle. If there is, you will need it replaced. Find a certified repair place for your brand. Hope this helps. :D
