hi, my name is denia251, first time on this site. if anyone can please direct me in the right direction on what i need for my embroidey machine to download designs from the internet.i have a kenmore elite 19010,ergo3. what kind of reader/writer and what software do i need?i am lost and need help.

Hi Denia,
Welcome to the group. You will need some type of box like a Vikant or Magic Box or Amazing Designs in which you can transfer the designs to an embroidery card in the right format. They run about $200 and then another $60-$100 for a blank card. Everyone I know that does this uses the Vikant box. Go to http://www.vikant.com and read what it has to say. I'm not affliated with any of these companies.

I used the Vikant box before getting my new machine and I really liked it, very easy to use. I liked the Vikant as you could put more than 6 designs on the card, where with a Magic Box you are limited to 6, then you have to erase the card and start again. Most places that sell the Vikant also sell one card with the box.

you will also need to know that you need designs in .sew format, unless you want to spend MORE money for software to convert other formats to yours. ( BuzzTools/BuzzXplore, Embird are just two you can download them from online at their sites..www.buzztools.com and http://www.embird.com)
Your machine was made by Janome for Sears...I think it's the Janome 9500 it's comperable to. (also .sew format) you can ONLY embroider designs that will fit in your biggest hoop.
Be careful where you buy designs. (don't buy from Russia or the middle east...they tend to have viruses in their sites...they also digitize American cartoons and things that are trademarked and copyrighted...thats a NO, NO...)

all these sites have thousands of designs and are reputable people.
you will need GOOD embroidery thread. (stay away from Coats/Clarks...it will fuzz up your machine and cause problems.) use good bobbin thread too..use a new needle for every 4 designs. ( otherwise you will have problems with nesting and tearing.) make sure you use proper stabilizers for all your fabric. You can use Janome feet/bobbins/needles, that will fit the 9500 machine. http://www.janome.com click on USA.

I use Embird Plus to work my designs. It is a worthwhile investment. With a little practice, you can easily modify your designs down to the stitch and also very easily merge designs and lettering to create names that become one file.

Here is a little bit of information that I came across years ago to move designs around-it works perfect for me and is very economical:

The following is what you need to do if you DO NOT have the
customizing software:

On your Compact Flash Card you will need to create a folder and name it
Emb_file
Copy your design file into that folder.
Only put .JEF formated designs on your card and in that folder.
insert the adapter into your machine
Turn the 19010 on,
choose mode
choose the embroidery function mode (2nd from the left)
choose the tab that shows the card and you will get symbols showing not to touch anything--and they mean it!
as soon as the card has been read, you should be able to see your designs.
While you are in this mode, DO NOT turn off the 19010 and DO NOT eject the card.
When you are done stitching your design choose mode
then choose conventional sewing function mode (1st on the left)
you can then eject your card and then you can turn off your machine.
You have to disengage the card from the software in the 19010.

Make sure that when you have your compact flash Card in your reader/writer
that you disengage it from your desktop or laptop computer by backing
out of all windows and then choosing eject.

Ambassador has free software for converting any format into any other format.
