Serger Needle Issue

New postby LadyZelda on Thu Jan 23, 2014 9:13 am

When my serger is in motion, then needles scraps against the lower looper. I've changed the needle thinking maybe it was bent. I've check to see if was inserted properly and it seems to be. Can't quite figure out why the needle scrapes and bends, but so far has not broken. Any suggestions??

I learned the hard way to use only needles marked "for Sergers" . I do not know what is different about them , but I know that my serger will only sew perfectly with the correct needles. I suggest you take it for a checkup if it does this when you have the correct needles in the machine. Better safe than sorry is my motto.!

Thanks Libby. I will double check everything. I would love to save the money, but I may need to make that trip to the serger doctor.

What make and model is your serger? Some sergers can use regular sewing machine needles but some require only the ELX-705 needles.

My Babylock manual requires that specific set of needles Marty..I always read thru my manual at least 2 (sometimes 3) before I ever use any new machine that I acquire.

I would agree with the other suggestions -- it could be the needle if you are using a new type or if the machine is new to you. Definitely check your manual on the needle issue, and I wouldn't use it if you are still having the problem -- metal parts scraping against each other could cause damage to the machine, and a broken needle can be very dangerous to you (could become a projectile).

It is an American Home Serger AH100. I haven't had time to spend on checking the solutions offered, but I hope to do that tonight. Thanks for all the information. I will post again once I review everything.
