Machine hunting

New postby sewingrandma on Fri Feb 27, 2015 11:37 am

DIL has been texting me all morning re: sewing machines. She has recently caught the sewing bug, taking lessons etc. Her machine died and needs a different one. She told me that the Viking dealer has several used machines that would fit her need for $200. Yikes, if I was there I'd get one myself. I've been trying to steer her in the right direction giving advice-service, good condition, lessons if needed on how to use, what comes with it etc. My fingers are getting tired from all the texting. Hope one of the ones available is one she likes and fits her needs. She'll be working on heavy duty fabric making covers for their boat and she also wants to try home décor and quilts.

Oh, how fun is that. I'm not familiar with Viking machines except the really big ones. Which model is being pushed for her to buy?

She bought the 940 model brought out in the early 80s. She couldn't turn down the price. She also had a 150 and 6690 to choose from. I'm hoping since it was one of the early computer models that it will deal with the heavy fabrics she'll be using and that the mother board will hold up. My first Viking was completely mechanical and is still going strong going thru multi layers of heavy duty fabric easily. I also have 2 Lily machines which are work horses too but computerized. Once I had a static electricity problem and my reverse button wouldn't work but the dealer did something to it and the problem cleared-no charge.
