My Early Christmas Gift

About a week or so ago, I took my Pfaff 1371 in to get it serviced as it had been setting up for a few years. Sarah wanted a machine to take back to school to work on some sewing projects with her friends. I don't think my daughter would really sew as she has made it clear that she does not enjoy sewing but one of her suitemates does love to sew so I think she wants a machine for her friend to use. I thought this would be perfect for her for her to take to school. My Pfaff was over 25 yrs old but was a true German built machine. Well, my tech said that the mother board, circuit and the display boards were shot. It would cost over $600 to repair it with rebuilt parts and I would only get a 30 day warranty. Well, I really, really wanted the Babylock Melody sewing only machine but the price was $1799 on sale for $1299. I knew that was out of our budget. So, today we went to my dealer and I was looking at the Melody and some lower priced machines in the $300-500 range. And there was a pre-owned Melody that had been traded for Babylock Symphony by a lady who owned it for about 3 months and had used 3-4 times. The lady's home had been hit by lightening so it had a brand new mother board and all new parts. It was marked $899 and came with an extension table, a knee lift as well as a lot of accessories and presser feet. Hubby talked to my dealer and I came home with the Melody for less than $900 (including tax). Hubby said that he thought that it would be a good replacement for my Pfaff. It's my early Merry Christmas gift. I am so blessed and thrilled at the same time. Now, I can embroider on my Ellisimo and sew on my Melody. The best of both worlds.

Awesome for you!!! Its so much fun to get a new machine coming from one who just got one herself!!! But what about your daughter???

Karen, it is wonderful to get a new machine especially since I wasn't really expecting one. Sarah has never liked sewing and doesn't get any enjoyment out of it. She wanted to take one of my old machines to school primarily for a friend of hers to use and to make a T-shirt quilt (remember those). I told her that she could take my new machine if she really wanted to sew. It would only be for a few months but I don't think that she will. Sarah does have a small 3/4 machine ... a White 1911 that needs to be serviced. It's a very basic mechanical and just needs a tune-up. She's told me to give it away in the past since she doesn't like sewing. I told her that she could give that machine to her friend and let her friend have it serviced. I don't know what she will do. In the meantime, while my 2 sewing/embroidery machines are stitching embroidery designs, I'm using the "Melody" to get some sewing done. I'm running a week behind of my schedule right now. Got to get myself in gear.
