Maybe some of that is cultural - I am only 13 -- But Tony's Mum and Dad didn't have an indoor loo and bathroom until 1978 - it was tin bath for them and the netty in the yard.

I'm older than dirt. I remember 17. We didn't have a movie theater until I was teenager, and that was after they stopped doing newsreels. Had a seen a movie in my younger years I don't know if it would have had a newsreel or not!

I still have a stainless steel pot that was purchased with S&H green stamps. It will probably last till I'm gone.
I remember news reels when I was in the elementary schoole age group. Mom would drop us off at the movie theater and pick us up later after we walked to the RexAll drugstore and bought a greasy hamburger and fries if we had saved enough money for it. The money for such trecks was rarely just handed out without my earning it. We weren't dirt poor but Mom believed it was good preperation for adulthood to learn to manage our money and to learn to earn it. I Baby sat as soon as I wa 14 yrs old and that was the main source of my income. Earlier I might watch a younger child while its mother was busy with sewing or house work or other things but was close at hand if needed. I also fed neighbors pets when they went on vacation.

I used S&H Green Stamps and Blue Chip Stamps till I was married at least 5 years or so. Got several things with them.

When visiting my paternal grandparents in Europe they never did have a bathroom, per se. They had a WC and bathed every few days in a galvanized tub in the kitchen. Once in a while they'd go to the bath house a couple of blocks away. They never had much money but it wasn't unusual at all. I still remember going to that bath house when I was a kid. Strange experience. My other grandparents cared for a wealthy old woman in a wheelchair (polio) for many, many years. They lived on the top floor of her very posh house. I used to be able to take long baths in this HUGE claw foot tub on the bottom floor. It was lovely.

We used to get Royal Gold stamps with our grocery purchases at the Red and White store when I was a kid. We saved them in books they gave us free. Mom got some Revere Ware pots and pans and a set of ceramic dishes. I am still using the Revere Ware although some lids are gone and others have had the knobs on top repaired. The dishes are long gone/broken. I'm guessing the pans are maybe 30-35 years old and still going...

I remember 19...so also older than dirt. My cousins lived off the main road and never had electricity while they were growing up. We used to visit & stay overnight...so have used their outhouse...but didn't like doing so at night cause you never knew what you would encounter after dark.... They also had a hand pump for water in their kitchen. We used a wringer washer to do the laundry up til I left home to go to college. And my kid brother once got his arm caught in the wringer when my mother's back was turned. He was lucky there was no damage done!
