Hello everyone.I'm a 33 year old novice. I've been sewing for 4 years and by sewing I mean hem a skirt, mending seams and trying out a few very basic kids clothes. I have a brother GS2700 sewing machine and an overlock that's as old as I am.have no idea what make it is. Am actually hoping someone can help me identify it.here to learn and grow.

Welcome MaiTali! We are a small but friendly group with a lot of knowledge among us and eager to share it. I do garment sewing, currently mostly for babies-gowns, outfits that I donate. When the kids were little I made most of what they wore until they reached the age where they wouldn't be 'caught dead in something home made', I also made most of my clothing, including scrubs for my job, and shirts and pants for DH when he needed them. I own several different sewing machines, a serger and an coverstitch. I do knitting and crocheting also. Don't be shy about asking questions and remember there is never a dumb question because there will be someone else out there wanting to know the answer also and too embarrassed to ask.

Hi MaiTali, It is a pleasure to meet you. I am an older novice. I have 2 good sewing machines and an old over locker- WhIte ATS 2000, and a coverlock machine. I had hoped to retire in a year or two and do alterations for a little extra spending money and for a service to my friends and family. Well 3.5 years ago, that plan was derailed and at 67 years old, I am care giver to my disabled husband and I still work full time. Instead of sewing I am my husbands speech therapy coach. He is improving every day and perhaps when I am 70 I will be able to return to sewing. 2.5years away. Any way, I love to read the posts and questions and I do sometime remember a remedy for problems that I learned here. I will recommend that you have on hand a good sewing manual and a book I think the title is
Sewing 911, In the top rt hand corner of this page is "Search the Sew What's New Archive". It is a great resource of archived information from the site this site is a spin off from. The original Sew What's New site is no longer operational. There is also an interesting and informative web site under the old name that is managed by the original owners, daughter. I have not quiet learned how to use it but it has lots of information as does Pattern Review

PS My husband spoke a spontaneous 9 word sentence in speech therapy a couple of days ago. He was able to begin driving again last summer. He can mow the yard on the riding mower. He folds and puts away the laundry. Vacuums at my suggestion and works with his service dog. He also Plays Lumosity and Constant Therapy on the IPad. He can log on to the Mac Book and access his speech therapy website. He is also beginning to comprehend and put into use how to manage his insulin pump. Pretty good for a guy who was predicted to be a vegetable in a nursing home till he died. Praise God!

Belinda, it sounds like your DH has made strides with his stroke. I know the medical people tend to stop all treatment after a year if no progress has been made. I don't know what the magic is about that year point but it should be extended. Some people just need more time and different types of treatment. What works for some won't work for others.

Brockie, the newest thinking on strokes\braine injuries is that the brain is neuroplastic and can continue to build new synapses for years.

I am a little late with my welcome, but I have been occupied with a bum knee and just when I was getting better, Bible school came along and I always help in the Crafts Lab, so I wore my sore knee out standing on my feet all day saturday. But today it feels better, so I got on here to check my mail and see what going on. So, Welcome. I have a Janome sewing machine , A babylock Lauren Serger, and a Janome cover stitch machine. .. And the there is "Old Faithful" my 2 sons call her. It is a Singer 221 Featherweight Portable I bought used in 1957 and is still just as good as the day I first got it. Makes the finest buttonholes you can find on this earth..
These days I mostly do sewing for charities. I like the quick and easy items nowadays .. I make baby bibs and receiving blankets for the USO Suite at our local Airport to be given to military families that are traveling. and in December I make stockings from christmas abric and our hurch members donate the items to stuff the stockings for the military that cannot get to the US for Christmas. We had connections for several years, but nowadays we get leads from the USO because all the men and women we knew over there are all back home. Praise the Lord for taking care of them all..
earching the archives has been suggested to you and I second that motion. I still look there for reminders that I have forgotten . Wen I run into a problem, that is the first place I look, because I think back in the good old days , we covered every sewing problem anyone could thik of..
