Why Sew What's Up was down

New postby kaitlinnegan on Thu Sep 20, 2007 9:14 pm

Hi everyone,

You might have noticed Sew What's Up was down for a short time tonight. There was an unfortunate series of cascading events that caused our site to go down, starting with what was apparently a fiber optic cable being cut. It affected exactly three area businesses, including a local hospital and ... our basement, where the Sew What's Up server is located. Sorry for any inconvenience! Should be working again now. Let me know if you have any problems.

Actually I'd prefer if people generally do not e-mail me when the website is down. Since the server is in our basement, DH and I will be the first ones to know about a problem. This was the case last night. If something is happening at our place like the internet is down or the power is out, we won't be able to receive e-mails anyway until the problem is fixed. If there is a problem with the server and we are not home to fix it, we will not be able to fix it until we get home anyway. In any case, an e-mail will not really result in the problem being fixed any faster. Of course I don't mind getting e-mails from my concerned members, but if there are hundreds of e-mails in my inbox informing me that the site is down and I can't get them until the problem is already fixed..well..I'm not going to be a very happy camper. ;)

BUT - if you do see anything strange going on with the site such as BAD posts (pornography, etc), please e-mail me ASAP. If I am at school I may not be checking the site very often, but I do check my e-mail regularly.
