My Sister has a new hip!

New postby LeapFrog Libby on Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:28 am

My Sister had a right hip replacement yesterday. Now she has 1 knee and both hips that are replacements. She has RA and has suffered for a number of years. She is only 63 and has had a lot of problems with this in the last few years. She is also very tall, over 5- 10 and I am only 5 ft even.. So instead of using older and younger we use big and little when we talk about each other to people. For the laugh value, you understand. Whe I introduce her as my little sister, everyone gets very wide eyed, then comes the smiles and laughter..She does the same, tells people I am her 'big sister' and they expect to see a giant, I guess..
She is doing really well. Surgery took about 1 hour, then recovery room was about 1 hour, and then back to her room. two hours later she was sitting up having lunch. (liquids, of course) according to her daughter. I will get to see her this PM, after DS gets back with my car. He was out of town overnight for his job.I will let you know how she is after I get to see her.I know she would appreciate all thoughts and prayers.

I hope your sister recovers quickly. RA is an awful disease proscess but it is wonderful that medical science has found ways to replace and repair joints. Osteo arthritis is aggrivating enough but I understand that RA is much more debilitating. Have a great visit.

Guess she can be classified as being the bionic woman ... LOL!!! Am glad that she came thru surgery fine & that she has a quick recovery period. Libby, I'll add her to my prayer list.

Wow, it sounds like she had a good surgical team! Hope she is back to normal soon. She can probably write her own book on PT by now.

It seems Dianne has hit a snag. Her foot is numb and they seem to be stimied by that .. She cannot move it up and down.Dr has been by and is not sure what is causing it.. or if it will resolve. She and her daughter are very frustrated right now.. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.. I will keep you posted as I hear anything new.

Hoping for the best for Dianne. I'm sure it's annoying but a numb foot is still better than pain or any of the other complications she could have. Got my fingers crossed for a good, quick, full recovery.
