It apparently was a problem with Outlook 2010. It kept downloading messages that had already been downloaded, over and over again. I knew it wasn't a spammer, as it was legit emails, just emails that I had already received over the past year. Hubby figured it out, and was able to stop it just as we had gone over the 4,000 new messages count. Apparently outlook 2010 gets into a loop over sending and receiving and gets confused. So now I have a 30 minute delay in receiving messages. That could be troublesome for days I work at home, but I have a way around it. I can view emails on my Ipod, so if I have it ding when new emails come, I'll know right away.
What took forever was cleaning it up. Unfortunately I do not have the option to view unread emails, so I sorted the emails by sender, and tried to delete the ones I thought were duplicates. Again, troublesome because my peeps at work don't start new emails, but pull up an old one and use the reply button. So I may get an email with a message of work for January 24th, but will be work for today instead. But no matter, I cleaned it up, and as far as I know, I only deleted one email that I wanted to keep. It was impossible to go through the deleted items folder in search of it, so I just waved bye bye to it and emptied my trash can. I can get that quiche recipe again, I'm sure.
So now I'm back online. I'm happy to be done with that mess
