Hi everyone,
I consulted Consumer Reports for help in choosing a vacuum. The consistently highest rated models were Kenmores, Hoovers and LG brand. Dyson ranked consistenly low.
I won't buy a Kenmore because I'm afraid they will go out of business and I won't be able to get my bags, filters, replacements, etc.

I ended up with a Hoover canister. it is a pain to pull the canister around, but it works great on my tile, my carpet, the wood floors and the steps. It is also very quiet, which I love. So I'm a happy camper.

I tried to buy it at a store, but no one in my area had it in stock, so I had to order from the Internet. Took about five days to get it.

Tonight, I was at Sears & they had a nice lightweight cannister vacuum on sale for $99. I thought about those looking for vacuums when I saw that. I still love my Eureka Mighty Mite (The Boss) as it weighs less than 10 pounds & cost less than $100.

I think that Kenmores are Sears brand and they are made by Eureka.

Hi Nancy. It's good to hear from you.
About a vacuum, I finaly bought an Electrolux cordless/ stick vac to keep the hard floors cleanes up. it is light and bagless. Not really good for tight spots. I found it at Lowes. They also carry the Electrolux cannister vac. I think, while I am in Huntsville today , Ill check out the Sears / Kenmore model.

Whelp, here I am back at the thread. I guess my vacuum (a Shark Navigator) is broken. The roller thing isn't turning. It starts and immediately stops abruptly. It's ONLY 15 months old. It's got a 7 year warranty but they want me to ship the thing back to the factory and include $16.95 for handling! That'll probably be $50.00 right there. Not fair! Then I'll probably find out it's something I did afterall. I don't know of anything but even though it worked fine it's always struck me as a flimsy machine. I think it's the same one you have Judy, with all the foam pads, etc. that need to be cleaned out regularly.

Dh wants a Dyson but we'll see.

 :eh: Dh goes to San Diego yesterday to have lunch with two sisters and his mom. He comes home with an upset stomach, headache and a.............Dyson. :eh: I didn't know we had decided to get one but it's fine. Costco has them right now for $90.00 off so it was ONLY $399.00! The darn thing better last a while. I like the way it handles. I'm a little surprised at how flimsy the plastic parts seem. (They may be deceptively strong though. I hope.) The cord is shorter than I'd like too.

But this baby sucks! I also like the way the thing adjusts for height. My last one didn't do that well and a couple of the lighter weight rugs I have nearly got sucked up. This one knows to take it a little easier. So far, so good. :applause:

Congrats on your new Dyson Lennie!!! I'll keep my little Eureka Mighty Mite as it does great on the hardwood floors (no carpet in our home) & weighs less than 10 pounds. It even has a hepa filter. I've had it for over 20 yrs.
