I have an HP laptop I love and it has lasted well but it doesn't get moved a lot anymore.
When I get a new one I'll get a desktop since I don't plan on being in a situation where I need a laptop again. I did use mine out of the house a lot for work in Syracuse. With my phone now I don't need to take the computer when we travel if I can manage not to have to write a story while we are on the road. I wouldn't want to try to type up 20 or 30 inches on the phone.

Well, thanks everyone for the suggestions, yep, ds said we should get a laptop, but I am a weird one also, I just don't like a laptop ;) ;) ;)
We did have a computer guy build this one for us, and the previous one was built for us, but I still think both computers had/have stuff we don't need on them.
All I require is the ability to burn cds/ and see my embroidery designs... I will have to make sure the computer we get can read floppys since that is what my designs are on, as I don't have Embird, and my embroidery machine either runs the Brother cards or a floppy.
Sigh...  :anxious: :anxious:

DS just bought himself a laptop and he loves it. He sat down the other day and gve me a lesson on how to use it. What a disaster that was. HE IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER> Sorry to yell it but truth is truth. I do not like the whole concept of laptops. How do you change to left handed mice? No explanation of how to use that little square made sense to me. I will stick to my old faithful desktop here. LOL

You can always get a portable floppy drive with a USB port. They are about $30. http://www.meritline.com/portable-usb-e ... nextaghdac That's what I did for my floppys. My ASUS burns CDs & as well as has a reader/writer so I can download photos & watch DVDs movies on it. I have a 15 inch screen. Since I have to stay on bedrest a lot, I like having the laptop to lay on my chest while I'm on the computer. I think we paid about $500 for it & then bought a 2yr Geek Squad contract which upped the price. I've used them for several issues with my hubby's computer but the AT&T guy looked at it when installing U-verse & removed some stuff that Geek Squad had downloaded & he's had no more issues with it. Can't really recommend Geek Squad. Toshiba is a good brand too.

You definitely aren't going to be able to find a computer with a built-in floppy drive! Another alternative to a portable floppy drive is to copy whatever is on those floppy drives onto your hard drive, or a flash drive. Those old floopy disks didn't hold much, so it probably wouldn't take up that much space. You could try experimenting with that before you buy a portable drive, and see how it works for you. (I'd suggest putting contents of each floppy in a separate folder.)

It took me a little while to get used to using a laptop, but I totally love them now. The touch pad concept felt so foreign to me at first, but it's now second nature. I really like not having to dedicate an entire space to computer use, particularly since the room that used to hold our computer desk is now one of the rooms I use for sewing! My laptop can be used anywhere in the house, and just slides into my nightstand when not being used. Mine is small (14") because I wanted it to be really portable, but I can attach it to a regular monitor if I need the big screen for something. Which actually doesn't come up too often....

Whichever you get, I suggest you don't pay for the Geek Squad. They often take much longer to fix things than your local computer shop would, and their service contracts are full of exclusions. Plus, if they go out of business, you've wasted your money! (That happened to DH when he bought a service contract thru CompUSA.)

I've had an HP desktop, a Dell laptop and currently use that for my embroidery stuff. My main computer is a Toshiba laptop with a 17" screen. I have a separate cordless mouse since I don't like "the square". I also have a separate KEYBOARD :x because a son who shall remain nameless spilt olive juice (of all things!) on my built in keyboard and ruined it!

Point is: All three brands have been very good to me and I'd recommend any one of them. I would never get a desktop again. They take up too much room!!

So is mine. :)

We've had both a Gateway and a Dell desktop. They were both good, but I agree they take up too much room. I use a wireless mouse.
I'm creative. You can't expect me to be neat too.

you can by "desktops" that the cp unit is part of the screen so no extra space needed
