I must be the odd one. I do not like laptops. They are too small even with a larger screen, I used one for several months when our desktop was down but hated it. When I finally decided to call to get my desktop fixed, it was only $200 and I had waited and waited thinking it couldn't be fixed and we'd need to replace it
I have no advice as I'm pretty much computer dumb. Can't tell you a megabite from a gigabite or how much you need of what or how fast it needs to run so I'm at the mercy of the kids or now my computer fixing guy. He also builds them and said whenever I decide to replace mine, he can build me one cheaper and better than any box store b/c he will only put in/on what we need/use and won't waste memory on stuff we don't. He has a checklist of questions to ask and can look inside our current system and find out what's used/what isn't.
Our only problem now is not enough ventilation. I have an armoire that Joe built me and it's too hot inside the small area he allotted for the tower so I run a small clip fan until he has time to drill more/larger holes in the back.
dd22 has HP laptop with broken screen but can still use it as it's only about 1/4 of the screen down the left side. The glass is intact but there's liquid inside that's broken out of its whatever. $200 for a new screen so she's just going to get a new computer next year. dd19 has the older laptop (2008) that was originally dd22's. The charging port is broken and its over $200 to fix so again, she's just doing without which right now is no big deal since she's back home. I wonder if we could take the two of them and make one but haven't called yet since none of us has any money to do it now anyway.
