Most of you already know a lot of this but here goes....My name is Lori. I live in Alabama with my husband of almost 20 years. We have a son (18) who starts college very soon (and is moving out of our house :( ) and a daughter (15 going on 25 ;) ) who is in the 10th grade. We also have 3 cats, including Cupcake the crippled cat who I talk about all the time :D , and 2 dogs (a 15yo lab mix and a 3yo rat terrier) who are all my furbabies. I've loved sewing for most of my life and made my first quilt when my daughter was a baby. It was made using mostly scraps from dresses and outfits I made for dd and my niece. I have 2 brother sewing machines (a PC6000 and a 1500 for quilting), a Singer serger, a Kenmore that I used to sew DD's dresses when she was little, and a 1957 Singer given to me by a family friend. And oh yea, another older Singer I got at a garage sale and couldn't resist but never use.
I happened upon the Sew Whats New site in March of 2000 from a link on Alex Anderson's website, and that's how I came to know all of you wonderful people. :D
I'm creative. You can't expect me to be neat too.

Hey Bama,

I have a rat terrier that is my baby, too. We "rescued" her from an emergency animal hospital where her original owners dropped her off. I can't imagine anyone not loving this dog, she is so sweet. She inherited my very first quilt and loved it so much she wore it out. I made her a quilt of her very own out of doggie print fabric. She carries it around the house to where she wants to sleep.

momquilts,
What's your rat terrier's name? Ours is Lulu. Does yours seem to have springs in her feet too? ;) They are sweet dogs. She loves everyone she meets. My mom has 3 rat terriers. Two are Lulu's parents and the other is her brother. My sister has one of Lulu's brothers, and my aunt has the other. All are fixed so no more puppies. Lulu was the only girl and turned out to be the sweetest one. She also has her own quilt. She waits for me to spread it across the top of the couch each evening and then she lies down.

When we got our "baby" she was already named Margarita. We call her Rita, but she comes running to anything. She is between 2 - 3 years old, not exactly sure. They told us she had AKC papers but they were never filed so she could never have been bred, but we "fixed" that anyhow. She sleeps with me every night, curled right behind my knees. If I'm not in bed when she is ready, she comes to get me.

She is the best watchdog we have ever had. She barks when someone comes to the house then licks them to pieces once they're inside. The only trouble we have is when people try to leave. That's when we have to watch her - she bit my sister when sister was leaving.
