The Couture Dress & Other Classes

New postby MartySews2 on Sat Apr 07, 2012 9:39 pm

Craftsy.com has a special now that one can take an online class with Susan Khalje for only $25 which includes a Vogue dress pattern. This is an excellent way to learn to improve your sewing skills & have a great dress too. Just join craftsy.com (no fees for joining) & sign up for that class plus they offer a variety of other classes at discounted rates. I found about 5 classes that I would love to take. You might even find you like garment sewing. Erica Bunker of Birmingham, AL has a theory that why buy something when you can make it. I firmly believe in that.

That's the beauty of the class is that you can watch the videos over & over & work on your schedule. There is even a chat feature for question/answer sessions. They send you the dress pattern & it will take 5-10 business days to arrive. I just thought for $25 you get a class & a pattern that it was a good bargain.

I just looked at that (not that I actually have time to do it anyway), but it's $79.99. Is that because I haven't joined/signed in, or did the price go up?

Beth, that's the regular price for the class. If you join craftsy.com (they have lots of classes), then the classes are 50% off. When I got to the check-out, I found out that the class was only $25 which included a Vogue dress pattern. You can take the class at your leisure, watching the videos over & over, join in on the chat or email questions. I thought it was a good deal. I have been curious about the classes. I still consider myself a "newbie", so I'm wondering if I could handle it.

Theresa, I think you could do the class as Susan Khalje takes you thru the pattern, making a muslin, thread tracing, underlining, lining, etc. They mail you the pattern & then you work at your own pace & ask questions as you need. You can watch the videos over & over for as long as you want. You can even save them on your hard drive. For $25, I thought it was a good deal although I have been sewing clothes for 50 yrs or so. I can always learn something new.

Well I signed up. The link you posted did not give me the discount, so I pulled up my email about it and used that. My cost was 39.99 or something like that. I don't know how you got it for $25., you must be lucky!
I've started watching the video, and I really like it. She has a good voice for doing this, and explains things well. I think that watching the video now, and again when I get the pattern, will really help me to get it right the first time! I also like that they don't cut part of the process out! It shows her marking every pattern piece, not just part of one! That really helps me!
