what do i do with the pocket?

Here's the front of the shirt I am making for DH's buddy. The white chalk marks are for pocket placement. I can totally match the pocket OR I can use a fussy cut like the 2nd picture shows. What do you think? Oh poo I reversed the pictures, but that's ok, you get it.

We made a cajillion short sleeve Hawaiian button up shirts out of Alex. Henry fabrics (hot rods, classic cars, flames) and sold them at car shows when we took our '56 Chevy out in the Summer time.. Gave us something to do and made us money on the side. We always matched the pockets. Even had some customers say they would not buy RTW shirts b/c the pockets didn't match up. One of the companies that Joe did shirts for when he ran the garment shop at the prison also had matching pockets and they would not accept them if they didn't.

I'd love to see a full shot of that fabric, might be something Joe would like \

I don't always match the pocket. I just want you all to know that. But in this case I would.

Dorothy, I have a question for you, do you tack the facing down on the shirt anywhere? I've always tacked it down at the shoulder seam but now I am wondering if that's why I don't get the front flaps laying correctly. I didn't do it with these two shirts, so will see what happens.

Yeah, Laura, I do tack it down on the shoulders. But I always understitch the front facings from where the top button will go to the hem. When I press it I can kind of control where it rolls above where it is under stitched and somehow it seems to help with the way the lapels lay. I don't tack it down at the shoulders until that is done. I really don't have much problem with the lapels laying right anymore.
