Flannel is one fabric that I always do the test my dear Mom taught me years ago.. When shopping for fabric, tak the corner of the fabric and scrub it in your hands like you are hand washing a garment. Then look at it and feel the texture and you can tell whether it has been filled with starch or other chemicals to add body to the fabric. In flannel it usually shows the cheap stuff has space between the threads. Those are the ones that stay wonky no matter what you do to them.

That's a good tip Libby. So many times I've purchased flannel that has turned out to be terrible once it's washed, even when it's been the pricier fabric.
