I started a thread in Garment Sewing about my frustrations. I was making Simplicity 3796 shorts, and had to cut them down 3 sizes. Here they are:

nice!
I finished the shorts & cut out a top for myself! Started sewing but I thought I should stop when I started yawning. I don't want to have to rip this out. I am using a soft poly(? from stash not exactly sure) woven It has a light blue background with Hawiian type print flowers on it. Will post pictures when I get it done

I actually bought muslin to make a muslin for the pattern I bought yesterday...luckily I only paid $2.47 for a yard because it's too small. I was going to use the muslin as a lining for the skirt because it's patchwork fabric and may feel weird on my skin if not lined. I let the seams out to 1/4" but haven't tried it on to see if it works. If not, back to walmart tomorrow for another yard of muslin to make the muslin. It won't be wasted if it doesn't fit, I can cut it into squares to use as the foundation for the string quilt from another thread that I want to copy.

Marty, thanks for the link to the fitting video. I do have a slight swayback, so maybe I'll need to adjust for that. It doesn't cause any problems with the fit of RTW skirts though -- they always fit just fine, assuming I've got the right size. I'll probably cut one out of muslin just to get an idea of what adjustments might be needed.

But I'm getting ahead of myself -- I need to finish the romper for my daughter first!

And therein lies the joy of having your own sewing space!! Makes all the difference in the world. Yay for you, Jan and Yay for you, Beth. Hey Beth, just curious, what general (or specific) part of the world do you live in?

Theresa, great job on the shorts. Looks like they fit perfectly. I like that pattern. That's the one Lori recommended, isn't it?

I live in Idaho -- just outside Boise. I didn't notice I hadn't added a location.

Yay someone else on the West side of the country!

Theresa, great shorts! You had to cut them down 3 sizes! WAhoo, better than having made them and realizing you had to go up 3 sizes! or even 1 size.

I started working on Mcalls 6277 for Easter and quit when I didn't finish it. Also I havn't sewn a stitch in many days for some unknown reason. Just can't get my priorities in order I guess. Well anyway I am having wrist/thumb surgery on the 7th and hope to finish the dress tomorrow ant the next day. The side zipper has me paralysed, but I am determined to move on and to do this the correct way. I wan't to learn the technique so I do not have to dread it ever again.

Theresa, thaose shorts look great. did you take tyh pockets off before you took up the shorts seams?? They look like they still have plenty of room in them.

I could only get a picture of 1 pair of shorts. I took the ones to DGSs & they went right in & put them on. All 3 fit perfect!
