Oceanside is about an hour and 10 min. due west from where I live and I go through there every time I go see my Mom. It's the furthest north city in San Diego County. From there you go north through Pendleton Marine Base and on into Orange County and then to L.A.
We're heating up but it's supposed to cool off again to around 70 in the next couple of days and it could be in the 60's at the coast. (Is she going to the San Diego County Fair, btw? It's in Del Mar right on the ocean about 20 minutes south of Oceanside. For people that like that kind of thing it's a must-see and it's in full swing.) Out here on the coast May and June are pretty ugly. It's known as May Gray and June Gloom because we get the "onshore flow" which means it's cloudy, cloudy, cloudy and cool till around noon or so when the sun comes out. I always suggest tourists wait till the second week in July if they want a Calif. summer. We don't get those clouds because we're too far inland which means our summers can last 5-6 months up here.
