I'm a pants, shorts, jeans, capri girl, I think I own 3 summer dresses and one dressier skirt for winter, and I don't remember the last time I wore any of them.

Amen to that!!!

Well , I still love those wrap pants.. I wore a pair of them in the 70's that I made to parties, dressy, and casual and everybody always raved over my outfit. I had those pants, a tank top and a jacket all matching , of course and it was an all over floral design in greens, blues, and a touch of shocking pink here and there. It was a snazzy outfit and I wore it for several years, til they went out in favor of straight legged pants.. I have that newer pattern you showed here, but have only used the halter top for a friends daughter.. Still waiting for the right fabric on the pants.. Nothing has talked to me yet.. LOL

Does anyone remember tying two bandanas together to make a halter top??? I think I'd have to use four now but hey..........

Oh Yeah!!! I wore that back in my teens when I was a skinny minnie!! and short shorts along with it!!

I just bought one of these a month ago. When I was in the shop, the lady tied it on me in two cute styles. Of course, after getting it home, I can't remember those two styles, and I think I'm too short & wide to wear a lot of the other styles. Oh well. It will make a cute beach coverup.

I made an infinity top once..I wonder where I put it! I think it had some minor issues that I was going to fix. I like the idea of multipurpose garments, but in practical application they are a bit tricky. Most styles could be kept modest by wearing another layer underneath, but twisted, tied and wrapped fabric can start to get pretty bulky and unflattering if you don't have a very lightweight and stretchy fabric.

Interesting comment, Kaitlin. I just bought McCalls 6353 with the hopes I'd get a versatile dress, but without the strange bulk. You're now making me rethink my decision...

I think you should definitely try it! Just don't spend a lot on fabric -- or alternatively make sure you could cut it apart and use it for something else if you don't like it.

I think my "infinity top" could only be worn as a surplice halter, one shoulder, and maybe a cowl neckline halter -- the straps weren't very long, and it a "back" connecting the straps rather than an additional tube of fabric worn over the bust. Here's the general idea:

The upper drawing is the overall shape of the upper pattern piece, and the lower drawing is the top shown in surplice halter mode. The red area is where the fabric is overlapped.

You might want to think about the length/width of the straps. Making them shorter or thinner might limit the versatility but might make the dress more flattering overall. I think the photo that goes with that pattern shows what I'm talking about a little bit -- the lower left blue dress, for example. The thick bundles of fabric make her look heavy around the waist.
