swing coat rainwear

I want to make a rain coat for DGD but I want a swing style. Can't seem to find a pattern, so do you think if I revamped a regular hooded coat style and used a body off a jumper pattern that is quite 'swingy' that it would work?

I think using a swing coat pattern like Butterick #5401 or McCall's #5718 could be adapted for a raincoat. Hope this helps.

I made my winter jacket from a pattern for a casual unlined jacket.
U often use patterns just to cut the shape I want and be sure the pieces fit together. After that it's the fabric and what you do with it that makes the difference.

I made one for dd a few years back and couldn't find a pattern so I just extended the side seams into a flare and it came up quite well but not quite swingy.

If you slit the back of the pattern part way up and spread it open it would probably make it into a swing style. But I would play around with it before using the fashion fabric you want for the coat. This is, after all, my idea and those don't always pan out the way I hope they will.

That's what I was thinking of doing Dorothy, as well as using a jumper pattern back. I've been looking at pattern pictures and I will do a sample out of some scrap first JIC. And if it works out, she'll have a swing jacket too!
