I'd just make a lined vest, with the lining the reversible fabric. As far as closures, if you do it right, you can make the buttonholes, and put buttons on both sides of the vest opposite each other, did that make sense?? it just means that wearing it one way, the buttons are on the right and reversed, they are on the left. It's easy to do.
My grade 8 grad dress was one I made which had an empire waist, huge puffy sleeves, and a square neckline, it was out of a huge flower print, white, pink and orange. It was hideous and i looked like a humongous wallflower in it. To this day I can't wear a square neckline, empire waist or puffy sleeves. We should all go into therapy together!
