reversable vest

Chloe would like me to make her a black vest lined with a black and white check. She thinks reversable would be great. Anyone got tips for making a reversable vest. I will use a classic style with a curved v neck.

Oh....flash back to high school, where I was not part of the popular group. I was in the band (colorguard) and the popular kids in the group decided to make reversible skirts and vests to wear to school on game days. I had taken home ec, and that was it. I couldn't make it reversible, so I had two separate ones that I wore on the appropriate day. One day they chose a side to wear "out" and later changed their minds, and I couldn't change mine. And of course, I didn't know about sizing, and it was so small it was painful, and I couldn't do button holes, so I sewed the buttons on and pinned it shut, and it was so tight I couldn't breathe...

My advice? None. But feel free to join me in therapy if it doesn't work out.

Oh Theresa, That is soooooo sad but funny. I never was part of the in crowd and the jumper I made in hme ec was so homely. I may need therepy. I struggle with trying to fit Chloe because even though I measure her while here. By the time most garments are made she is no where near to adjust the fit or style as I sew.

I'd just make a lined vest, with the lining the reversible fabric. As far as closures, if you do it right, you can make the buttonholes, and put buttons on both sides of the vest opposite each other, did that make sense?? it just means that wearing it one way, the buttons are on the right and reversed, they are on the left. It's easy to do.

My grade 8 grad dress was one I made which had an empire waist, huge puffy sleeves, and a square neckline, it was out of a huge flower print, white, pink and orange. It was hideous and i looked like a humongous wallflower in it. To this day I can't wear a square neckline, empire waist or puffy sleeves. We should all go into therapy together!

That is one thing I do not have a problem with. Make front and back from each fabric . Press. Do not sew underarm seams yet !!! this is the most important step.
Now sew lining to outer around edges. The underarm seams are still open...
Press and turn. after turning vest reach inside and sew one of the underarm seams all the way around. Press .
The final step is reach thru other underarm and sew outside seam and part of inside seam. ( as much as you can. ) then press and finish the last little bit of that seam by hand. Your reversable vest is finished.
