Singer Stylist 513 threading correctly

New postby klnf38 on Tue Sep 21, 2010 4:13 pm

I have a Singer Stylist 513 and am having issues with the bottom stitches looping, or being really loose. I've had it repaired recently to replace the tension cap and had it adjusted but still has the same issue and the only other thing that I can think of is that I am threading it wrong. I have the manual and have looked on line how the thread it and I cannot figure out what I could be doing wrong. I am making a wild guess that maybe I am missing something when the thread goes through the needle thread tension dial. My presser foot is up, so it cannot be that either.
Thanks in advance.

Are you possibly missing one of the hooks near the needle? I know my DD was having trouble with her machine, until she finally realized there were 2 hooks for the thread to go through at the needle and she had only used one. Other than that, it is probably like you said a threading problem. Did it work ok once you got it back from the service guy? Can you go back to them and get them to show you how to thread it?
I know how frustrating it can be to fight with your machine. I had a problem with my serger and it turned out I had missed a hook, once it was in right, it sewed like a dream.

Last time I had a machine problem I had it serviced and when it came back it still did the same thing. I took it back to the service man and set the machine up and sewed on the same cloth I was using at home. I messed up the same as it did at home. The service man said he hadn't found any problem with the machine. He went and got a stretch needle and put it in and it worked as it was supposed to. The strange thing about this problem is that it only occured when I was sewing on the bias or cross grain. It Didn't mess up while I was appliqueing on the fabric Just when I was heming. Go figure!

If your bottom thread is looping, is your bobbin inserted properly. I have a top loading bobbin and today I was sewing and the bottom tension was off. The bobbin thread had slipped out of the thread path so there was no tension. Could this be your problem?
