I have my deceased mil's Singer treadle and I wouldn't sell it for anything. It is in mint condition. She sewed for both her older daughters when they were teenagers, for herself and for the youngestg daughter who is now 61. It works perfectly and I have the original zipper foot that came with it.

That's a 15-88. It can use generic low shank attachments- so you can add to the zipper foot if you decide you want more feet. In fact, lots of parts are still available for this machine.

That looks like my machine, Patsy. But mine is not in such good condition. it needs a good cleaning and oiling and the cabinet is a little worn around the edges.

Patsey, That is the exact machine that Mom made most of my clothes on till I was 15 years old. I have the head and the base but the cabinet was ruined and is long gone. I'd love to find one still in the cabinet. I have such fond memories of trying to learn to sew. I never got a single garment made by mom that I didn't love. Oops! Mom's first foray into pants making wasn't a big success but she overcame that in short order. Thanks for posting the picture of your machine.

When I was at school we had a grand old lady similar to this - not sure if it was a Jones - half the machines were Jones and half Singer - they were the standard make you got in England in the 60+s . That is a gorgeous looker!
I sold my Jones about 5 years ago to get my Janome Quilters companion. A good reliable machine, that went to an 18 year old who wanted to use it for her fabric/textile projects. Does the treadle have only of those long thin bobbins? (I was never allowed to use the treadle at school sadly)

I have never heard of the Jones but you made me go looking at the old Singer I have that is similar to the one shown in this thread; unlike that one, the condition of the cabinet leaves a lot to be desired.A few years ago it was working but I have not tried it for several years.
Congratulations on that find.

Ladies, the great thing about the old treadles is that if you find one that is still all together and the cabinet is in reasonably good condition, you can clean the machine with a good oil, put a new leather belt on them and more than likely they will sew. Also, if you look at yard and garage sales, sometimes you will find a cabinet that does not have the machine in it. I love my treadle and it sews like a new one and makes the prettiest straight stitch you have ever seen. Also, I have my dh's grandmother's old treadle machine waiting for me in a basement in Bristol, Virginia when dh and I have the time and money to go retrieve it along with a cedar chest that belonged to one of the aunts that helped raise him. DH is 69 so figure in your own heads how old his grandmother's treadle is now as well as the cedar chest.
