A Gordon Gartrelle

Who hear watched The Cosby Show? I did (and do -- I have the entire series on DVD). My sister and I LOVE the Cosby Show, and firmly belief that everything you need to learn in life you can learn from The Cosby Show.

Anyway, one of the funniest episodes is when Denise tries to sew a shirt for Theo. (Watch the clip here if you don't remember it.) I'm thinking my sister would really appreciate it if I made her this shirt for Christmas. Any ideas on how I can go about designing and sewing this shirt for her?

First off, I really don't think anyone would love it if you made them a shirt like that. :o :o But if you are determined, just use a basic pattern and improvise -- do the "decorative" work before you finally put it together, I think (at least most of it). I don't think fit is too important here.
I was cracking up at Cosby's reaction.
We used to watch that show every week. Our two daughters were the same age as the two youngest on the show so they kind of all grew up together.

I think perhaps making a sleep shirt like that would be a lot of fun. That way it doesn't matter if other people don't get the joke - she would and she would appreciate it, and it would be useable as well. Maybe start with a basic blouse pattern, and go from there.

You could have so much fun creating that shirt! Get a basic shirt pattern, and a puffed sleeve pattern from a blouse, put the collar on sideways, you could cut it however, and put an extra yoke onto the back, then make the one sleeve really long, the puffed sleeve a 3/4 length, the collar needs to be longer on one side. What fun!! And you could embroider a little tag on the inside, 'original Gordon Gartrelle' with that wonderful embroidery machine!! You must show pictures!! Oh, I'd have a blast making that!!

Laura,

I like your ideas! I no longer know if I'll have time making the shirt for this Christmas, but maybe for her birthday (October), or for the end of the school year. :-P It might work well to make this as a night shirt...I know it's something she'll never wear in public (unless it's for Halloween?), but some use as a night shirt might make it more useful...

I just think it'd be hilarious to see the look on her face when she opened it!

That has to be one of the funniest video clips I've seen in a very long time. I miss family oriented shows like that one.

If you could pull off that shirt, I think your sister would split her sides laughing when she opened it. I agree that it may be best as a nightshirt....I don't think the public is ready for that type of designer shirt.

Thanks for a chuckle!
