I thought the October 1st-December 31st was a nice round amount of time, and let's anyone making stuff for after Christmas get some of that in. Okay, I don't really have a reason, I just liked the time frame.

I agree -- I'd prefer to start sooner rather than later since I hope to sew a few things to wear ASAP out of my stash. As it is I'll probably be starting "stash reduction" before Oct 1, but I won't be playing to win anyway. I probably won't sew much between Dec 23 and 31...but you never know.
