Test Driving the 2340CV Coverstitch machine

I finally got a chance to pull out my new (6 months ago) coverstitch machine. - Life has not been giving me enough time to sew (sigh..)

I used it to hem some knit pants for my SIL which was a great first project. Easy-peasy! I like it. verall the machine is more "plasticky" feeling than I like, but it wasn't very expensive, and it does the job just fine.

Sew Classic, What brand is that. It sounds nice. I find I don't use my Janome coverstitch machine much but when I do I enjoy it. Have fun with your new baby.

The 2340CV is a brother coverstitch. I ran across it on closeout for aarund $299. To good of a deal to pass up!

Sounds like the same model that Kaitlinn has. My Janome coverpro 1000 seems a bit stiff or rigid in operation is that what you mean by "plasticy".

Yes, that is the machine I have! I posted a bit about it here: My valentine's day gift. I've used it a bit and so far have really enjoyed it. It has really streamlined and improved my knit sewing. I want to get some attachments for it to make binding edges and topstitching easier.

It seems to run very smoothly - the only trouble I've had was with one of the plastic buttons for releasing the tension. The tension was not releasing so I had tried pushing it harder. I guess I had pushed it down too hard and got it stuck underneath the plastic casing for the machine. Luckily Bob was around to pry it out for me (I was afraid I had broken it)! I haven't had a problem with them since, though.

I'm extremely happy with the machine, and looking forward to doing much more with it.

LOL- I did the same thing the first timeI used it! The button just popped right over where it needed to be with just a little help.

I still have to play more with mine to figure out the tension, stitch length etc. I'm still a little wary of it. But it really just needs practice (I mean I need the practice!)

It helps when doing coverstitches to use a fusible interfacing on the hem as well as Wonder Tape to hold the hem in place while stitching. Just a tip.

Thank you, Laura, but I cannot take credit as I read a lot of different sewing/serger books & file info in the back of my brain. I use Wonder Tape for a lot of my sewing when I want my stitching to be precise & neat. It really helps when putting in zippers, bias bindings, hems, etc. I really like that it washes out & is a double sided fusible.
