I think the Textile Studio pattern for the Madison Avenue dress will work. Just add a lace overlay with sleeves. Very chic. Here is a link for the patterns. http://textilestudiopatterns.com/patter ... esses.html

Hmmm, Marty, I just don't know that I can make that one work. I do know That the LBD with The black lace overlay was beautiful but there was a sleeve pattern to start with wasn't there??? I wondered if I could take a connie crawford todays fit t shirt pattern and retrace the neckline of the pattern into a wide v and lengthen the right side of the boddice and Gather it up on the left side giving it a left side up sweep????? We are talking about using stretch lace and stretch satin for this getup. She wants to look coctail hourish and sexey and definitely not homemade loooking. She has lost 14 lbs and working to take off a little more. (The tummy could still use a good bit of work.) The x husband (father of the bride) will be at the wedding with his petite wife.

It's a wedding dress pattern, and would need some adjustment to the skirt but it may work.

I've never tried NeueMode, but I sure do like their styles. I think I will have to go back and do some shopping!

Love the dress you've picked out.

Doesn't it just bug you when you've got a picture in your mind and you can't seem to match it? Anyway, I couldn't find an exact match even though the dress seems rather simple, but this OOP Butterick I admired for a while but never bought came to mind:

Butterick 4069

I think you can still buy it on their website, or you could look for it on ebay for a better price.

I was thinking that the dress would look good with a separate lace jacket. The style of the Madison Ave dress is actually flattering with a bit of a tummy as the skirt flares into a trumpet shape. I've made it up 3 times when I wore a 3XL about 5 years ago and always received compliments. Now that I am a size 14, I'm thinking of using it again.

Marty, I just don't think I can make it look close enough to what DDIL wants. she is more the form fitting type. Me on the other hand, I think I will use the Madison Avenue dress with a lace jacket. Would black be wrong for a coctail hour dress??? Or should I go with a celery green or pastel? Since it is for a wedding.

It used to be "bad luck" to wear black to a wedding but these days that will be fine. My cousin just sent photos of her SIL's wedding and many of the guests were wearing black including my young cousin. I would just choose your favorite color and go with it. My DD is wearing a dark teal with black accents to her cousin's wedding in May. Since your DDIL wanted form fitting and the Madison Ave dress is form fitting with a hint of flare at the skirt, I thought it looked closest to the photo you posted. It does have slimming lines with a v-neck like the photo.

Actually for an evening or night-time wedding, black is a perfectly acceptable color to wear. (though if you are either the mother of the bride or mother of the groom, some people may take the color the wrong way. That one is probalby a definate DON'T) I had a friend who did an evening wedding, and all of the brides-maids were in black. Her dress was a wonderful Scarlet! It was beautiful.

That would take guts to pull off!! But it would be stunning, for sure. I think almost any color is acceptable except white or cream. Kind of like competing with the bride!
