Michelle Obama's Style

New postby kaitlinnegan on Fri Nov 07, 2008 9:38 am

Lennie inspired me to start a discussion of our new first lady-to-be. Generally, I really like her style - here is a gallery of some of her outfits, including the election night dress: Vogue gallery.

The election night dress is the first one, in red and black, if you didn't catch it on TV. The more I look at it, the more I like it, but I admit I didn't really like it at first. I think it didn't show up very well on camera - the red came out sooo bright, but I think it would have been prettier in person. I'm a bit confused as to why the colorblocking doesn't have a flattering effect - if anyone can explain this, I would really appreciate it! :? Anyway, it wasn't my favorite, but it was really cute how she and the girls coordinated! :)

Anyway, what do you guys think? I heard she doesn't have a stylist - do you think she'll get one when her husband takes office? I guess we'll be seeing a lot more of her in the coming years. :D

I think the colour blocking makes her look broad - if she took the shrug off it would work better - I love outfit no 3!

Did you see the news (or the celeb thing they do) last night? They did a comparison of her style and Jackie O's. It was very interesting how they did a side by side of both First Ladies.

It's nice that she dresses well. Laura Bush was a little on the dowdy side. From what I hear Michelle Obama is a brain too. That's cool.
I just hope the press leaves the girls alone. The Bushes managed to keep theirs out of the limelight -- except when they acted up a little as young women will do -- and earned the attention.
But remember how they were always talking about how unattractive Chelsea Clinton was when she was a kid. How hard that must have been for a little girl.
I love that green jacket. I liked the red and black too. Very dramatic.

I still think the election night dress is awful. I like all of the other outfits on Vogue's list though. Yesterday I did a Google search of her election dress and got nothing except comments on this dress which is terrific. Michelle Obama's Dress on The View

Today I did the same search and she's all over the place. The reviews are not good and they're calling it "The Black Widow Dress" which is really horrible if you consider the implications. Yes, it does look like a black widow spider but it's still very tacky.

They're a very attractive family and seem genuinely happy. I'm looking forward to some really great things ahead.

A $148 dress on national TV!! That's great. That sounds expensive to us -- we could probably make it for a quarter of that but still it's not a lot for someone in her position. I'm glad she doesn't feel like she has to spend a lot of money and still looks great.

I know this comment is a little off the topic, but someone else brought it up here. The children: I feel all kids should be off limits. Chelsea went through a growing up stage in the white house that we all have went through and I sure wouldn't want my pics at the same age to be shown. lol The twins did things that most of us have done and it went public. So glad so many of my stunts at that age didn't hit the media. lol I feel there should be a ban on the kids UNLESS the parents give the okay for the photo opps and stories. jmha **picking up soap box and going back to ripping out walls**

To me, Michelle Obama, has a very classic sense of style. I read in an article somewhere that she likes to shop at J Crew, White House/Black Market, and Anthropologie online for her clothing. She strikes me as a very confident person who has created her own sense of style and doesn't care what other's think. She wears what she likes. That's one of the reasons that I sew is so I can wear what I like not what fashion mavens dictate. Good discussion topic.

I like people who do lots of color and she seems too. I saw an interview with a professor who was a mentor to both Obamas in law school and he said he was surprised when Barack ran for President. He thought it would be Michelle.

She is one smart woman. (I want to be her when I grow up!) I believe she's a Harvard-educated lawyer, and used to be president of a hospital. I think it's also nice to see that women can do whatever they want, and be accepted. It seems like Michelle (because I *am* on a first-name basis with her) has been able to pursue a variety of interests, and do what makes her happy. In the end, that's all we can ask, right?
