Am I being unreasonable?

Here is my dilemma.. I have this pair of pants that I've ordered. They are not comming hemmed... and I need them hemmed in a matter of oh... hours. Is it unreasonable to ask a seamstress to do this for me in that short of time? I would do it myself but I am scared to mess them up and I really don't have the time or the energy to do it right now..

I don't think it is unreasonable to ask but it might be unreasonable to expect her to say yes. If she can't do it -- you can.

You can ask but be prepared to pay more if she does say yes. & tip good!

If the cost is too high, you can always resort to semi permanent tape that you can use to iron up the hem, then finish them at a later date!

In my area, to hem pants runs about $20. You can use steam-a-seam to put the hem in place for the evening or pay someone else to do it if you're uncomfortable. I don't hem my DH's pants because I'm not comfortable doing a blind hem. I send them to a tailor to be done.

I always considered hemming pants to be a pain when I was doing professional sewing. They didn't take a lot of time and sometimes I'd have up to 50 outfits at a time waiting to be done. Rather than just leave the pants laying around in my way, I'd just stop and do them, often while the customer waited. I imagine that is the exception more than the rule, but it is how I handled it. It doesn't hurt to ask.

These last 2 month I restorted to using masking tape on my ds slacks, as everytime he wanted to wear them he had grown, and I was getting tired of rehemming. It worked very well, and looked crisper than the hemmed slacks. Just be sure to untape them the minute you get home, as you don't want them to be laundered with the tape!
