Pfaff Hobbylock 4762

I'm having an impossible time trying to introduce myself and my issues. So, I'll try this.
A couple years ago I bought a used Pfaff hobbylock 4762 Serger that was “complete”. I bought it from a Sun Lakes resident who had upgraded. She wasn’t part of the SNS family. I honestly bought it to do a rolled hem on delicate materials. It took many months before I was ready to dive into serging. In the process of lessons, private and group, it was discovered that I am missing part # 99371736, known as the converter (the only way to do a rolled hem!!!). I went back to the original owner with no luck. Since then I have emailed nationally and internationally, I have called or traipsed to every store carrying my machine and actually “ordered” the part from 3 separate machine locations. After months of waiting, each said it was impossible to get. During the wait we went to Ebay nationally and in Germany with no luck. My husband even contacted the CEO in Germany who quickly wrote back and informed us that the machine and its part were obsolete and impossible to find. They would not give Jim the specifications for the part even though they have gone to commercial and have divested the household part of the company. My husband has tried to fabricate the part using his engineering background. Might I say he is incredible.

Welcome Barb from another Barb. Sorry I can't help you but maybe Tom or Bill will see this. Try to post in the machine section I think that is where they post more often.

I could ask at the shop where I got my Pfaffs if they might have a used part or something. Tom may be able to help find a used machine too.

Hi Barb,
Sorry that you're having so much trouble getting a part for your Pfaff. Did you try asking on the http://www.Pfaff-Talk.net website or the OldPfaffPforum on yahoo groups? Maybe someone there can help you out. Wish I knew what the converter looked like so I could ask my Pfaff dealer. Have you tried http://www.Pfaffusa.com customer service. I believe they are located in Ohio.

Barb, I will see if I have or can locate one. The only place to find one is a delaer that has one still in stock. The reason Pfaff-Germany can't give the specifications is that they didn't make the machine.
Also because Pfaff Industrial and Pfaff Domestic machines are now two different companies. Pfaff is now owned by SVP which also owns Viking, Singer and White. I don't recall who the manufacturer of that model was but its not who makes Pfaff sergers now.

I had the Pfaff 4842 and I also have an Elna 744. The converters are the same for both. I don't know if your 4762 takes the same converter but I would think that either a Pfaff dealer or Elna dealer could get one for you if yours takes the same kind as mine.
The converter is only for when you need to disable the upper looper in order to do 2 thread serging but you can do a 3 thread rolled hem without the need to use the converter. The 2 thread is better for when using delicate fabrics.
