I made a man's vest years ago on my Singer 221 Featherweight and used a leather needle. Worked beautifully..

DH is excited to go to the store on Sat and check out the leather. Course I was planning on a sewing day, silly me... what was I thinking?? I have a set of leather needles, and I think I will get my old workhorse Pfaff back from the dear DIL to do it with if we buy a hide. He's thinking their prices are pretty high, but then he hasn't come fabric shopping with me when I go to the high end quilt stores!!

Laura,
Remind him that it will last forever. He will tire of it and eventually have to give it away if he wants to get rid of it.. It will never wear out ! ! I call that a bargain.. Average it over 20 years for him ..
