Spiderman quilt

New postby bridesmom on Fri Jan 25, 2008 9:29 pm

This is for DGS's 6th birthday in July. Aren't you proud of me for being so far ahead of schedule!!!!! He has been a spiderman fan since he was old enough to talk so I'm pretty sure this will be a huge hit. It's large enough for a twin bed. You'll notice the black rectangles on the side of the web fabric strips. That was a booboo on my part. I made the mistake of measuring once then cutting and I knew I had exactly enough fabric for the 4 strips, so imagine my surprise when cutting the last piece and finding I had some skinny left over pieces, but undaunted, on I went to sew in the strips. Imagine my surprise when I realized they were 8" too short!!! I cut using the 36" as my length instead of the 44". And since I had ordered the web fabric on line, there wasn't any more. After berating myself for a while I came up with a plan. I hadn't planned on a border, but I searched my stash and found the black for the border. Once it was done I was quite pleased with how it turned out, considering it was not supposed to be like that at all.

The attic windows really works well with that feature fabric - as for the border - it is not a mistake - it is surendipity!

I think the quilt is great and he will love it. The border looks good and really pulls in the backing fabric. I think it was a good design choice.
