I wasn't going to sew until after Christmas, but one of the moms at Katelyn's preschool asked me if I would make some doll dresses for her dd's American Girl Bitty Baby Twins to match a dress she bought for her dd. I was so flattered she'd ask me! I almost declined because the dress she wanted me to match was a Smocked Bishops dress. I told her I did not know how to smock, she said that she didn't care if it was or not, just something in a matching color and similar shape. So I said that I'd give it a shot. I made a sample out of scraps to see if it was what she was wanting, I had never made a doll dress so I had to draft my own pattern. I made a simple peasant style dress and added shirring at the neckline to simulate the smocking. She thought it was great so I asked her to buy the fabric and thread since I didn't want to be responsible for matching the fabric to that of her dress She did and I made 2 identical dresses. I had no idea how to charge for it so I probably way undercharged for the time it took me to complete, but she is thrilled with the dresses!
Here is a picture of one of them on one of Katelyn's dolls (She doesn't own any American Girl dolls, this is just a cheapy one )
