A Nice Surprise

New postby MartySews2 on Wed Jun 26, 2013 7:47 am

This morning as I was reading the postings on my FB page, I received our Methodist Conference newsletter. I always like to keep up with what's going on so as I was skimming thru the articles, I came across one about our church's providing clothing for a local school especially those that were sewn. In the article, my "Butterfly" dress was mentioned. I felt very blessed to be able to provide some happiness for children and to be appreciated for my efforts.

Hugs and warm fuzzies do make the day brighter don't they?

Is there a picture of your butterfly dress?

Yes, I posted pictures in the Completed Sewing Projects & Tutorials. It was pink broadcloth with a white butterfly edged in black for the center front and then different color butterflies on each of the skirt panels edged in black. It was quite dramatic and the school loved it. I used white cotton lace edging on the waist and sleeves.

What a gorgeous dress! While I was in "completed projects" I looked around. Christmas ornaments, Christmas stockings, altar cloths, the blanket for Kyle the baby blankets and burp cloths. I have to ask - What do you do in your spare time??

Your work is beautiful, I envy your embroidery skill. I recently got an embroidery machine and so far I've done nothing but look at it and sew a few seams. And as someone who made her daughter's wedding gown, I should be ashamed of myself. You have inspired me, Marty. If I ever get out of the office tonight, I may just have to play with my embroidery machine.

Why thank you ... I don't believe in wasting time when it comes to sewing. Other times when I'm on bed rest, I am reading sewing blogs, posting on FB, or reading a sewing book or watching a sewing DVD. Can you tell that sewing is my life? Most of my projects are relatively simple. I also do alterations for church members. Last week, I shortened 3 skirts by 12 inches and hemmed them. The altar cloth, once the embroidery was completed, took 10 minutes to make using my serger. My next project is making a blouse for myself and a Christening gown for a friend's daughter who is 2mo old.
