Re: The first 3 backpacks: 1 yard

New postby temom on Sat Nov 10, 2012 4:20 pm

Here are the first 3 backpacks. I plan on making 10 for Christmas Boxes, and 14 for Nicaragua (my friend works with orphans, the same person we made the pack and play covers for several years ago). Fortunately, someone has offered to help with the Nicaragua bags. I do have them all cut out and the edges serged. That took a while!
Of course, I will only count the ones I make for the stash challenge.
I forgot to add, this is one yard, as each back is 1/3 of a yard. I am happy to finally put something on the spreadsheet. :D

Good to see some sewing going on! I have been searching and searching for a specific green Kona solid, I had a yard for one of the t-shirt quilts and I ran out, the top is 3/4 done! I'm hooped unless I can find the same green. I have looked in every store in Bellingham and Lynden, in town and in Maui with no luck. There are two more stores to check, one 20 min away and one in downtown Vancouver. Then I will start looking on line. If I can't find it in the next week I will have to start ripping out the whole damn thing and starting from scratch. I thought for sure I had enough fabric!

Here's a Canadian online shop that has Kona cottons. Would it be one of the greens on this site?

Oh I wish! I just pulled out my Kona solids color chart and the green I have isn't on there!!!! And it's the most current!! Which means, I may have bought it at Joanns and I know they don' t have it still, cause we looked before we went away, and the other is possibly at Fabricland here in town and I'm hoping that it's from there! I was positive it was a Kona! :anxious:  Oh I hope  hope  that it's at Fabricland! Otherwise a frogging I will go!!!!

Here's a colour card for Kona Cottons at the Robert Kaufman site. Maybe you will find the colour here so you know what number it is for searching.
http://www.robertkaufman.com/fabrics/kona_cotton/#colorcard

And remember sometimes the colour on the computer screen isn't the same as the actual colour of the fabric. When I was searching for blue fabric for my sister's grandmother's flower garden quilt, I ordered 5 shades of blue and the one that I thought was right on the screen was not...it was a totally different one.

OK, here are the rest of the backpacks. I actually made 3 too many, but that is ok, because I have another round coming up.
My dd is holding the 10 backpacks that go in the Christmas boxes. The other pile is the 14 bags that go to Nicaragua, but only 7 count for the challenge.A friend helped me put them together. I had the fabric cut, serged, and the casing pressed. We had to put name labels in then assemble them. The name labels took an hour to do! What a job that was!
My fingers hurt from inserting all the cords today. I am going to go watch a movie!

I am having a difficult time with Photobucket tonight so I posted my yardage and will try again tomorrow to get the pictures on here. I have 4 yards for a baby quilt (top and back) that I started over 2 years ago!

1.25 yards are for a fleece jacket for DGS#1

and 0.25 yard is for 4 snowmen potholders that I saw in an outlet in Williamsburg and came home and made a pattern for it. Hhhmmm, I think I should add another 0.25 for the backing of the potholders, I forgot about the backs!
