20 Yards

New postby Pudge99 on Tue Oct 09, 2007 8:28 am

I made 40 drawstring bags for the Girl Scout camping trip I just got back from. Each bag took 1/2 a yard of dark blue tafeta. The girls did awonderful job decorating them with glitter and feathers and beads. I took a coule pictures but not sure how well they turned out. If they are good I will post them later.

Took me 2 1/2 hours to pin my wall hanging this am.. Now my hand is hurting so I don't know if I will sew on it today or not.. That is the worst part of making them.. BUMMER ! !

Made another three giant receiving blankets, and think I have the hang of the hemmer foot enough to try using it on the lining I have spontaneously decided to add to my dress to help with unraveling.

Oh, if I'm decorating cloth diapers for burp rags, can I count the purchased cloth diapers, if they've been in my stash for a while (I bought loads of them when the boys were born to decorate for baby showers, and used up my stash of ready ones, and need to make more)?

I would say yes to the diapers. Just figure out how many of those diapers fit into a 45 width yard of fabric. You don't get to count the layers since you didn't sew them.

Since we can count the UFO's I will count the adult bibs afore mentioned. :D I actually made them from CHEAP towels that were cheaper than buying terry cloth. I bought them summer 06 - shame on me for waiting so long.
I cut out halloween pants and and applique for DGS last night that are from material that I bought last hall. to make dd a tote that I never got around to. And I am attempting to make a "ruffle" to attach to DD's rtw costume. It was much (and I stress much) too short. I am using a black chiffony material that has been in my stash for over a year. It was originally in one of my friend's grandmother's stash that she gave me. I have no idea how old it actually is and I am not sure exactly what it is. Only that it is a great challenge to sew. Very very slippery and tends to "roll" as I try to sew it. I got about 1/2 way through it last night. It gives a new meaning to stash challenge.
Happy sewing to all!!

Here's a new question for you.....I understand anyone can join in at any time, right? My dil just signed up and has raided my stash to make Christmas gifts.....can she count my stash? or can I even if she sews it?

HMMMM!!! Which way would be more fair? I count stuff my kids help me with since it is coming from my stash but the help they give is minimal. Tying knots in drawstrings, ironing, cutting out or a little bit of sewing is what they do for me. Your DIL is stealing stash and completing whole items.
Lets ask the audience on this one.
OK everybody who is reading this thread what do you think?
Should we let her DIL join even though she doesn't have her own stash?
If we let her join who gets the yardage DIL or MIL?

Made a t-shirt for GD out of some old ribbing fabric MIL picked up for me ages ago at the thrift store. Double bonus, I never even had to pay for the fabric. I embroidered a camoflage heart on it so it goes with her pink and grey camo jeans.

The MIL DIL stash dilemma - hmmmmm. Being that this is my first time I am going to pass on giving a response cause I'm really not sure what I'd do. Thought coming - if Lyn counts it as her stash then she is sewing twice as fast being that there are two people sewing, yet, it also decreases her stash supply and if she runs out, and still has time to sew before the contest is over, then it's not fair for Lyn cause she would have had that stash to use up if DIL hadn't taken it. See - dilemma.

I'm sure ya'll come up with a fair and reasonable result!!
