Bibs

New postby HeyJudee on Thu Oct 04, 2012 6:30 pm

Well here are pics of the 3 bibs I've made for my niece's baby shower this weekend. The first pic shows one side and the second shows the reverse of each. I made a mistake with the leg straps. They were supposed to be sewn with the corresponding fabric shows on each side but I didn't notice until I had them all turned and topstitched. Too much work to fix...and they don't affect the usefulness of the bibs. Will just have to remember to make a note of how NOT to do it the next time... :D

Those are really cute. Do they have batting between the layers? Did you start with a pattern, or just had an idea?

The Giraffs are my favorite. The baby will look so adorable in them.

Yes there's batting between. Years ago I bought a reversible bib (12 mth size) in a gift shop. Before I gave it, I traced and made a pattern from it. Used it to make bibs over the years. Then last year I found this pattern (http://www.connectingthreads.com/Patterns/Overall_Bib_Pattern__D55616.HTML) which has 5 sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL). The instructions in this pattern are not for reversible bibs...just use cotton on front, flannel for the backing and no batting in between. But I adapted it to what I used to do with the other bib I made and now make these reversible too.

Not just legs...but an entire frog kinda sitting on a lily pad. I have a book of quilting designs for kids that I bought a few years ago. I will sometimes trace a design on Golden Threads paper & just put it down and quilt it on a quilt or bag, etc. I can enlarge or shrink it depending on what I want. The frog I used was the original size that was in the book.

The book & designs are by Anne Bright. Here's the book I have...http://www.annebright.com/shop/product/simply-continuous-friends/. If you look around her website she has all kinds of designs that she sells separately...and some are digitized. etc.

I love all of them. dd19 just called me yesterday about shopping for or making some baby stuff for a friend of hers back home. They've been friends since grade school and she calls us Aunt Katherine and Uncle Josephine. She is having a boy in late December. I told dd19 I could do a quickie quilt and receiving blankets if she bought the fabric, now I think I'll do some bibs too, they are really cute and small enough I can quilt them myself.

These pantographs are in the book that I have....

http://www.annebright.com/shop/product/animal-friends-panto/
The teddy bear in the design I used on the first diaper bag I made. And I've used it on a bear quilt the past.

And this is the frog design that I have. Traced the frog in the bottom right corner of the pantograph. Just positioned it and even used a reverse image of it on the bibs
