mini halloween quilt

New postby bridesmom on Sat Sep 29, 2012 7:39 pm

This is for a swap at our quilt guild, it's my 2nd attempt at paper piecing. Next time I'll try an easier pattern!! But I'm happy with how it turned out. I think I could like paper piecing if it was small stuff like this and not a large quilt! I had to do this in sections then sew the sections together, which proved to be quite difficult. I'm sure there is an easier way, just haven't figured it out yet.

Were my potholders the first pp'ing you did? I love my potholders. Two days ago I had a pound of bacon in the oven. When it was done I realized my regular potholders (made from an old ironing board cover) were in the wash. I thought of using yours but only for a nanosecond. They're much too nice to risk getting dirty! :D Used a towel instead.

You take an irregular piece of fabric, usually 5 sided, sew another piece on one side, press open and sew another piece on, going around and around. Like making a crazy quilt. Then when it's big enough you cut out your shape. Or you can just make squares and sash them and make a cute quilt too. I've done it with hearts as well. It's a great way to use up scraps.

Okay, I get it. Didn't know about that technique or rather what it was called. I know folks make "fabric" that way for making clothing. Actually I've done it but for what I can't remember. I like that example a lot also.
