red picnic quilt

New postby bridesmom on Sun Apr 15, 2012 5:34 pm

This is going to my DD and her new hubby, they were married quietly on Mar 16. She's the mom of DGS who is getting the lego quilt and DGD who is getting the as yet unquilted horse quilt (next on the table). This is the one I did the king size circle quilt for. This top has been done for a good 2 months, just didn't have any batting, so now that I have a roll of batting (yes I bought a whole 40 yards!) I have a pile of quilts to quilt.

I love it! I wish I lived close to you so I could learn to machine quilt as nicely and as quickly as you do!

That is really pretty, and I love the quilting too! I sat here trying to decide what I liked more, the quilt or the quilting. I came up with I love them both, and can't decide!

Beautiful again! I love it. I had my free motion class yesterday but my machine would not cooperate. I tried to use the owners but it didn't like my thread. She said "it takes about 300 hours of practice to be passable"....sorry, I don't have that kind of time. I need a machine to do it for me :)

Beautiful! I love the feathers. The backs of your quilts are always gorgeous too. :applause:

This might be one of my favorites that you've made, Laura. The colors are exceptional! The quilting is too! :applause:

Is it fuscia or is it red? Hard to tell.

It's bright red! Kathy, I have found my machine likes certain threads for machine quilting, and others it absolutely hates. As far as the number of hours, my friend just did a baby quilt, her 2nd attempt at FMQ and she did a large stipple, it looks fantastic. Yes practice helps, the more you do it the better you get. The trick is to relax while doing it, don't rush, take your time. If you can check out Leah Day's website, Daystyle Designs, she has excellent videos and teaching information.

That really chaps my hide! Maybe it's the use of the word "passable". It's so discouraging to newcomers and is so patronizing! Maybe some it takes that long and then there are others with a natural affinity for it and it takes far less. To blatantly put a number of hours on it like that is indicative of snobbery, IMO. Prove her wrong, Kathy, and don't be discouraged!
